Natural Wonders of the World - Which One Would You Most Like to Visit?

As we continue our unit on People and Places in the World, we will take a closer look at the 7 Natural Wonders of the World.  Today you will have a chance to take a closer look at these natural wonders and learn more about a specific one of your choice.  You might decide to learn more about Machu Picchu. This video is a good example of something you might use to do your research.

After watching the video, you can then decide if you want to learn more about Machu Picchu or if you want to learn about another natural wonder.  To help you research, you can being with this wonderful website from National Geographic, 7 Natural Wonders of the World.  You can record your information using the graphic organizer I will provide you. (Here is a link to it if you need another copy).

Using this research, you will create a postcard/letter from the perspective of you visiting the Natural Wonder of your choice.  It will include both a picture/photo and writing. You will share your postcards with classmates.

We will work together to set guidelines of what the postcard should include. In the meantime, here is some inspiration!

Wonders of the World - Pinned Photos/Articles

Reflection Time!

Today you will be doing a self-assessment on your letter to me “from” the 7 Wonders of the World you “visited”. Take a look at your letter and check to see you have included the necessary information by highlighting it on your letter and then record it in the box.  If you don’t have the information in the letter, leave it blank.  Once you are done, decide on how you’d evaluate yourself on your this assignment. Did you include the following information?

Name of the natural wonder?
Location (latitude and longitude)?

Country and continent?
Vegetation?

Climatic zone and/or weather?

Nearest ocean or body of water?

Is your photograph on the bulletin board?

Did your letter show your learning? Did you do enough research to include all of the necessary criteria? Based on the information above, decide on where you fit on the 4 point scale.
Very good to excellent understanding and application of concepts and skills
Good understanding and application of concepts and skills
Basic understanding and application of concepts and skills
Limited understanding and application of concepts and skills
Did you include all of the information and add many interesting details and vocabulary?
Missed one or two sections but you have almost everything plus quite a few extra details and interesting vocabulary?
Missing a few sections but have most of the needed information and some extra details and a few interesting words?
Missing more than half of the information, no extra details, and not much detail?

Next we will find all 7 Natural Wonders with an atlas using the longitude and latitude measurements you and your classmates recorded. You will be demonstrating this understanding to your parents at the Student-Led conferences.  Record the coordinates for each natural wonder below, then with at atlas, find them on the map on page 10.
